Mindful Moderation
By Edwin “Ed” Norton, Better on Draft
At Better on Draft, we enjoy traveling and visiting each unique hub of creativity, craftsmanship and community, supporting Michigan breweries. We savor unique flavors and styles but also bolster the local economy and foster a sense of pride for Michigan beer. As we raise our glasses, I do so with mindful moderation in mind and standard ways to pace myself.
LET’S REVIEW:
Setting and knowing limits – Determining a reasonable limit: a specific number or a set timeframe for drinking.
Alternating alcoholic beverages with water- For every beer consumed, plan on alternating with a glass of water to stay hydrated.
Have a designated driver or take alternative transportation – Line up a driver to ensure getting home safely. Our newer approach also includes more beer-specific elements.
Eating at the establishment – Foods rich in protein, fiber and healthy fats help to mitigate the effects of alcohol.
LET’S REVIEW:
Ask about non-alcoholic options – It’s time for hard seltzers to clear the way for non-alcoholic options such as hop waters, pop, or lemonade.
Locate the lowest ABV options – You shouldn’t start with the booziest beer.
Half pours are perfect! – Ask for a half pour – a solid way to pace yourself AND enjoy the beer!
So, as we raise our glasses to toast the joys of summer, let’s do so in a way that is full of mindful moderation.
Cheers!
